UPCOMING EXHIBITION
l
Moments of Tranquillity
8th – 14th MAY 2024
Courtyard Gallery
– Aldeburgh, Suffolk
The paintings in this exhibition are in response to little gems I have seen in the landscape, seascapes and occasionally manmade structures whilst walking during and after the covid pandemic.
Some of the paintings show my renewed love of the Suffolk countryside with its charm and understated beauty. I have been drawn back to the rivers where I once loved to sail, along with the alluring, and for me, mesmerising east coast mud. I am fascinated, challenged, and delighted by the play of light, the reflections, shadows, and intricate subtle patterns which entice me to take a deeper look.
To some extent my paintings are a diary, a reminder of special places and times spent in quiet reflection. The exhibition also includes paintings from further afield, still with the same interest in light, reflection and hidden detail but with a few more dramatic views from the North East and Scotland.
I was privileged to spend many years in Art Education, teaching and also learning a great deal from both students and fellow colleagues. I now have the opportunity to focus on my own work which I thoroughly enjoy.
I can claim no huge comments on politics or society, yet in this fragile turbulent world, I aim to create a quiet celebration of the beauty I dearly hope we manage to retain. My hope is that you will be drawn in too and gain a few moments of tranquillity yourself as you view the work and, by doing so, share something of my wonder and appreciation of our surroundings.

About Stephanie Bindeman
I started my career with a BA (hons) in Art and Design at Manchester, specialising in Textiles. After initially doing freelance work, I moved to Leicester to do a PGCE and then obtained a teaching post in Suffolk. I later took up the position of Head of Art in a large Secondary School, a position I held for many years. Although I still do a little teaching, I am now retired and have the time to pursue my own work. I paint for pleasure, sometimes to commission and have recently started exhibiting in both Suffolk and London.
