A POEM BY STEPHANIE BINDEMAN

Blue winter

Blue winter

The Deben is not blue!

Shallow waters,

Mud lurking just below the surface

Detected by the echo sounder,

Churned up by boat propellers,

Strong winds and fluctuating tides

All mingle to create taupe, grey with flecks of brown.

But today it is blue.

Blue with the cold,

Blue, with the stillness of the water,

Blue, with the reflection of a troubled sky,

Blue, heavy with atmospheric licence,

Blue, before twilight takes the day away.

Silent Metal masts reflect the sunlight

Sprinkling facets of magic across the sky,

Frost speckles the tree lines and waters edge,

Reflections beckon and tease odd silhouettes along the shore,

Snippets of silver touch grey and white and navy and

Blue.

About Stephanie Bindeman

I started my career with a BA (hons) in Art and Design at Manchester, specialising in Textiles. After initially doing freelance work, I moved to Leicester to do a PGCE and then obtained a teaching post in Suffolk. I later took up the position of Head of Art in a large Secondary School, a position I held for many years. Although I still do a little teaching, I am now retired and have the time to pursue my own work. I paint for pleasure, sometimes to commission and have recently started exhibiting in both Suffolk and London.
