A POEM BY STEPHANIE BINDEMAN

Red and Gold

Red and Gold

The red and the Gold, they stand together

A vision, glorious both in colour and in light.

Yet, as they sway and mingle in the wind

So do our thoughts,

Conjuring up a multitude of images, historical and new.

The delicate flowers, emerge vibrant from disturbed and damaged soil,

Offering timeless rebukes, yet also optimism and great joy.

Their lofty companion, a life sustaining crop,

Vulnerable to the elements, requiring toil and care

Stands aloof, then, gently inclines its head to bestow a regal wave.

As man we labour yet also we destroy.

Leaving the restorative power of nature and perhaps a higher power

To make amends.

To rise through the complexities and devastation,

To offer a promise of new peace, new life, new hope.

About Stephanie Bindeman

I started my career with a BA (hons) in Art and Design at Manchester, specialising in Textiles. After initially doing freelance work, I moved to Leicester to do a PGCE and then obtained a teaching post in Suffolk. I later took up the position of Head of Art in a large Secondary School, a position I held for many years. Although I still do a little teaching, I am now retired and have the time to pursue my own work. I paint for pleasure, sometimes to commission and have recently started exhibiting in both Suffolk and London.
